There are several formats and sizes of Havana cigars, all of them made by hand, of course.

Length varies from 100 millimetres (4") to 240 mm (9½"). Thickness, or calibre, is classified according to the gauge, which goes from 26 to 52.

Although many smokers refer to the gauge, not many know exactly how it is determined. The unit used to measure the gauge is 1/64th of an inch. Thus, when we talk of a 38 gauge, we are referring to a circumference whose diameter is the result of dividing 38 by 64, with a result in inches. If you wish to work this out in millimetres, you simply multiply the result by 25.4 (which is the inch/millimetre ratio), i.e. a 38 gauge is equivalent to 15.08 mm.

The Galley Name is the name given to a cigar’s size or format in the Galley, independently of the blend, brand or manufacturer. Also known in Spanish as "Nombre de Vitola".
